And how can I use this knowledge in organizations? In the bachelor's program Integrated Safety and Security Management you will learn a mix of fire protection, employee protection, security, information security and management skills. You will work hands-on in projects and together with companies, because we know that safety and security cannot only be taught on paper. This means that at the end of your studies you will not only be an expert in safety and security, but will also speak the language of business and public authorities. This makes you fit for the professional world and opens up all possibilities in a trendy and exciting industry!

    Relevant admission requirement

    You need a general university entrance qualification, proven by

    • Austrian secondary school leaving certificate (AHS, BHS, vocational higher education entrance qualification) or
    • Austrian certificate of a limited higher education entrance qualification for the respective group of studies or
    • equivalent foreign certificate or
    • certificate of completion of at least three years of study with 180 ECTS credits at a recognized domestic or foreign post-secondary educational institution,

    or a relevant professional qualification with additional examinations.

    Relevant professional qualification with additional examinations

    If you have a relevant professional qualification, you can obtain the relevant admission requirement by taking additional examinations. The examinations are the same as for the limited higher education entrance qualification.

    Language requirements for admission

    The required language level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is at least

    • German - level C1.

    Legalization of foreign documents

    Applicants may require legalization of documents from countries other than Austria in order for them to have the evidential value of domestic public documents. Information on the required legalizations can be found here in PDF format.

    Translation of your documents

    For documents that are neither in German nor English, a translation by a sworn and court-certified interpreter is required. Your original documents should have all the necessary legalization stamps before translation so that the stamps are also translated. The translation must be firmly attached to the original document or a legalized copy.

    Online application - uploading documents

    As part of your online application, upload scans of your original documents including all required legalization stamps. For documents not issued in German or English, scans of the corresponding translations must also be uploaded. The head of the study program decides on the equivalence of international (higher) education qualifications. Therefore, your documents can only be checked as part of the ongoing application process.

    4. Proof of German level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The following apply as proof:
      • secondary school leaving certificate from a German-language school
      • completion of at least three years of studies in German
      • supplementary examination pre-study course - German C1
      • German certificate (not older than 3 years), e.g.:
        • Austrian German Language Diploma: ÖSD Certificate C1
        • Goethe Institute: Goethe Certificate C1
        • telc: German C1 University
        • German language test for university admission for foreign applicants: DSH-2
        • German Language Diploma of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany: DSD II - C1
        • Test of German as a foreign language (Test DaF): Level TDN 4 in all parts
        • Language Center of the University of Vienna: Course and successfully passed exam at level C1/2
        • Proof of a higher language level is also valid.

    Your application is valid once you have completely uploaded the required documents. If you do not have all the documents at the time of your online application, please submit them to the secretary's office by email as soon as you receive them.

    After completing your online application, you will receive an email confirmation with information on the next steps.

    Documents for the start of your studies

    An extract from the criminal record is also required once you have been accepted. This must only be submitted at the start of your studies.

    The admission procedure consists of the following parts:

    • Part A - Testing for learning abilities
    • Part B - Personal interview focusing on your ability and willingness to learn, educational and professional motivation and personal aptitude

    The entire admission procedure will be held online and completed within one day.

    During the studies

    The FH Campus Wien has positioned itself early on in the German-speaking world with academic education in the field of risk, safety and security management and therefore has a strong Austrian and international network in business and research. As a founding member of the Cooperation Network of Risk, Safety and Security Studies (CONRIS), the FH Campus Wien, together with universities and universities of applied sciences from all over Europe, promotes the further development of risk, safety and security management and facilitates international knowledge exchange for students in the form of courses and semesters abroad.

    Thanks to our cooperations with international organizations, ministries, authorities and leading companies, we have a strong network of top-class experts for teaching and research.

    With the Bachelor's Degree Program in Integrated Safety and Security Management you will learn about security from different perspectives giving you the ability to solve practical challenges with technical, social and economic approaches. With your expertise as an internal/external consultant for risk and security management, you will meet the current requirements for risk and security management positions in large companies and organizations or consulting firms. Embedded in the curriculum is also the possibility to acquire recognized certificates (e.g. process management, quality management, etc.) and professional qualifications (e.g. as security experts, fire protection officers, etc.). In addition to the degree program being part-time, it is also possible to gain credit for your professional activities in order to reduce your workload.

    Crisis staff exercise As part of the Crisis Management module integrated in the degree program, the department organizes crisis staff exercises in which students experience the complexity and dynamics of crisis situations first-hand.

    In the first and second semester, you will learn basic knowledge in the field of risk, safety and security management, understand statistical correlations and acquire competence in management systems for process, quality and risk management. Based on this, you will then deepen your knowledge of the following topics

    • fire protection,employee protection,
    • security management (physical safety, emergency and crisis management, etc.) and
    • information security.

    You will complete your studies with a Bachelor's thesis (some examples can be found here) on a topic of your choice. Maybe you want to do research directly in your company or solve a very specific problem in your industry?

    Curriculum

    1st Semester:
    1 classroom block Thursday through Sunday
    10 two to three-day classroom blocks Friday - Sunday (full day), in some cases Thursday and/or Monday 

    2nd to 5th Semester:
    5 to 9 classroom blocks Friday to Sunday (full day), in some cases Thursday and/or Monday 

    6th Semester:
    Up to 8 classroom blocks Friday to Sunday (full day), in some cases Thursday and/or Monday 

    Exams can take place outside these dates. For students who do not work at a single employer for at least 24 hours a week, additional classroom blocks are also available. There are also additional classroom blocks within the framework of supervision for the bachelor thesis and the practical project. 

    Electives

    Security is becoming increasingly important. At the same time, security is shifting more and more away from the public sector to organizations and the private sector (which often organize in cooperation with authorities). The challenges involved are complex, and to provide successful security management, security must be thought along the entire value chain. Graduates of the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Integrated Safety and Security Management are qualified professionals who can analyze, create, implement and communicate concepts, and work as internal risk and security consultants. By obtaining recognized certificates, graduates have an invaluable competitive advantage over other graduates.
