The Vienna Medical Imaging & Technology Summer School once again brought together international students to work hands-on on innovative medical imaging and 3D visualization technologies.
For the second time, the Bachelor's degree programme Radiological Technology coordinated the Vienna Medical Imaging & Technology Summer School, an Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) on medical imaging and 3D visualization in radiological technology. 43 students of Radiological Technology and Computer Science from Greece, Ireland, Malta, Portugal, Slovenia, Switzerland, Egypt and Austria worked together on innovative technologies in the field of medical imaging.
One particularly nice aspect was that three students from Pharos University in Alexandria (Egypt) received financial support from the FH Campus Wien international funding pot, which enabled them to take part in the program on an equal footing with ERASMUS+ students.
The blended intensive program combined a virtual week with a physical week in Vienna. In the state-of-the-art skills labs at FH Campus Wien, the students were able to put into practice the know-how they had gained. Here they had the opportunity to train on their own machine learning model for 3D segmentation of cardiac CT data, perform 3D surface scans and simulate real-life scenarios such as the planning of jaw operations.
The practical work in the skills labs was accompanied by keynote speeches from international experts and lecturers from the partner universities.
In addition to the scientific exchange, the Summer School also offered a varied side program: intercultural training and a scavenger hunt through Vienna as well as a guided tour of the Josephinum, the medical history museum in Vienna, and a joint dinner rounded off the program.
BIPs are international programs or lectures that combine a virtual with a short physical learning component and aim to enrich the existing curriculum with innovative added value. The flexibility and compactness of the format also enables students and lecturers who would otherwise not be mobile to gain international experience, exchange ideas and thus bring new perspectives and insights to their respective degree programs and home institutions.
If you are planning to coordinate or participate in a BIP, please contact Helga Reichert from the International Office of FH Campus Wien.
FH Campus Wien is looking forward to organizing a ViMiTech Summer School again next year!
The Summer School was funded as a Blended Intensive Program (BIP) as part of the ERASMUS+ Call KA131.
