The section Packaging and Resource Management at FH Campus Wien hosted the Austrian Packaging Day at the MAK - Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna in mid-October. Under the slogan "Innovative, networked and transparent along the supply chain", industry experts spent a day discussing the latest developments in packaging technology. "It is important to us to continuously drive development forward and contribute scientific findings for solutions and perspectives," says Silvia Apprich, head of the degree programs in the section of Packaging and Resource Management Sustainable Management of Resources, Sustainable Packaging Technology and Packaging Technology and Sustainability at FH Campus Wien. "Networking all players along the value chain is the main focus."
SafeCycle is a pioneering project of the Research Center Sustainable Assessment and Packaging Solutions at FH Campus Wien in the field of packaging recycling. By the end of 2024, scientists will be investigating possible sources of contamination of recycled plastics with DNA-reactive substances. The aim is to develop a catalog of measures with clear recommendations for avoiding contamination. The SafeCycle project consortium consists of three scientific partners, around 30 companies from Austria, 40 companies from Germany and eight international companies. These are recycling companies, plastics processing companies, the food and cosmetics industry as well as consulting companies. "In the course of the project, measures will be defined on the basis of the results obtained that will prevent future contamination and enable the use of recycled packaging materials in various areas of application, such as in food, cosmetics or household products," says Bernhard Rainer, SafeCycle project manager at FH Campus Wien.
The SafeCycle project is funded by the FFG, coordinated in Austria by the Plastics Cluster and ecoplus, and in Germany by the Industrievereinigung für Lebensmitteltechnologie und Verpackung e.V. (Industrial Association for Food Technology and Packaging).
The next Austrian Packaging Day will take place on October 10, 2024 in the ceremonial hall at FH Campus Wien. This year, the Packaging Day will be held as a full-day event in order to cover as many areas as possible. You can look forward to the topics of safety, circularity and sustainability. The program will be published in due course on our website.
