Peer counseling provides support from students for students - for who knows better what you need during your studies than the students themselves?
If your life is currently full of hurdles and obstacles, the trained LISTEN! peer counselors are there to help you along the way, free of charge and with a low threshold.
LISTEN! is a project to promote mental health at FH Campus Wien, supported by the Wiener Gesundheitsförderung (Vienna Health Promotion Agency).
LISTEN! stands for "Living Interconnected Student Engagement" and was developed from a teaching project with the support of the Rectorate and Workplace Health Management to sustainably promote the health of our students.
The project was set up to offer students simple and uncomplicated counseling services and the opportunity for social networking. Training courses are also being developed for teaching staff who are in direct contact with students. The aim is to raise students' health awareness and show them what to do in crisis situations. The training and services offered by LISTEN! are closely coordinated with the students in order to take their needs into account.
If you are currently in a difficult situation and would like to talk to a peer, we are here for you - because you don't have to manage everything on your own. Students can turn to the peer counselors with a wide variety of problems. The problems can concern both your studies and your private situation.
Our peer counselors are students at FH Campus Wien who have completed training as part of an open course. If you would like to become a peer counselor yourself, you can find more detailed information under the heading You Would Like to Become a Peer Counselor?
Send us a brief description of your request using the contact form or by e-mail to peer-beratung@fh-campuswien.ac.at.
A team of two peers will contact you and make an appointment for a personal meeting. You and your peer counselors can decide together where you want to meet and it is up to you and your peers to decide how often and over what period of time you want to meet. Online counseling sessions, e.g. via Zoom, are also possible. This means you can also use the service from abroad. Data protection and confidentiality are very important to us, which is why all peer counselors are bound to confidentiality.
The LISTEN! peer counseling does not provide therapy or acute crisis intervention. If you need medical-therapeutic support due to (psychological) stress situations, our peers can assist you on the way to professional help.
Peer counseling offers an opportunity to improve your own counseling and communication skills and to support other students. Peer counselors are trained as part of an open course for which students can register via the portal (log-in required). The prerequisite for the training is the desire to develop counseling and social skills in areas such as mental health, resilience, stress management and strengthening psychosocial resources. In order to work as a peer counselor, participation in at least 80% of the course and all practical parts of the training is required.
After completing the training, you decide together with the lecturers whether you would like to take on the role of peer counselor at FH Campus Wien. As a peer counselor, you will always work in a team and advise students with various problems, be it about their studies or personal matters. As support for peer counselors, there are regular team meetings with supervision and case discussions, led by the lecturers and a member of the project team.
Peer counselors are remunerated financially depending on the number of consultations carried out. Payment is made at the end of the month depending on the number of consultations provided. The fee for 60 minutes of counseling is currently € 21.19 gross.
The LISTEN! peer counseling does not provide therapy or acute crisis intervention. But as a peer counselor, you will learn which medical, therapeutic, social or financial support services you can refer students to in an emergency.
The course takes place in the summer semester and consists of theory and practice in equal parts. The theoretical lessons usually take place in the evening as online lessons, while the practical lessons take place on two to three Saturdays on site.
Registration for the course takes place via the portal for students.
