Digital Bioprocess Engineering - QualiDigiFerm

Project duration: October 1st, 2022 - January 31st, 2028

As part of this project "Digitalization in bioprocess engineering-Digital Twin in connection with real bioreactors for high-quality training in bioprocess engineering (QualiDigiFerm)", a software platform for the development of digital twins for the mapping of production processes is to be purchased. In addition, modern bioreactors are to be purchased that provide online real data for modeling digital twins or on which applications such as software sensors can be tested.

The requested equipment will be used in a number of consecutive lectures, which is why didactic coordination and methodological diversity are particularly important. Depending on the level of education, the handling of digital twins and the practical application (Bachelor's level) through to the design and experimental planning and implementation for the modeling of digital twins (Master's level) will be taught.

In addition to the main use of the equipment in teaching, it is also planned to use it in Master's theses, research projects, further education programs and events for the public such as Long Night of Research, Open House, etc.

Project Goals

  • quality assurance of teaching by implementing the digitalization of bioprocess engineering in education (curricula of the degree programs in the section Bioengineering)
  • acquisition of software to create digital twins for mapping processes.
  • acquisition of modern bioreactors that provide online data for the modeling of digital twins (interfaces) and at the same time serve for practical training.
  • use of idle equipment capacity for Master's theses and research projects
