Demographic change and rising costs in the healthcare sector are a major burden for a modern healthcare system. Despite all the challenges, the trend towards digitalization is intended to ensure high-quality, affordable care for all. However, this increasing use of technology also means that more and more digital skills are required from graduates of all relevant degree programs in order to make the best possible use of the tools available. In order to prepare graduates in the best possible way for the opportunities and challenges of the digital transformation in the healthcare sector, it is necessary to implement professional and practical digital topics in the basic education programs.

The following Bachelor's degree programs are to be included in the Healthcare Engineering project: Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Midwifery, Logopedics - Phoniatrics - Audiology, Orthoptics, Radiological Technology, Physiotherapy, Health Care and Nursing, Clinical Engineering, Biomedical Science and Applied Electronics and Technical Informatics.

From the perspective of the project, the fact that Bachelor's degree programs are offered at FH Campus Wien for all of the disciplines belonging to the field of Healthcare Engineering (Engineering, Health Sciences and Applied Nursing Science) is seen as a great potential for synergy. The interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary processing of questions and projects will therefore be easier, which in turn will increase the attractiveness of the Bachelor's degree programs.

Research goals

  • Implement new courses on the topic of healthcare engineering for the Bachelor's degree programs in Health Sciences, Applied Nursing Science and Engineering
  • accompany theses on interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary healthcare engineering topics
  • carry out interdisciplinary projects
  • develop knowledge management on healthcare engineering
