The Bachelor’s degree program Midwifery at FH Campus Wien is characterized by a well-balanced ratio of theory and practice. The combination of theoretical teaching and practical training, e.g. in case reviews or simulation training in the skills lab, prepares you most effectively for your practical assignments and promotes the transfer of knowledge between theory and practice in the best possible way.
In addition to teaching specialist, methodological and interpersonal skills, we place great emphasis on your scientific competence. You will learn to correctly interpret and evaluate scientific findings in order to be able to justify your professional actions at any time.
You are taught by experts in the respective field. Moreover, international speakers regularly enrich the lessons by presenting current research results in order to deepen the teaching content.
FH Campus Wien is characterized by extensive expertise and a large network. FH Campus Wien is the only university of applied sciences in Austria to train all seven legally regulated higher intermediate medical-therapeutic-diagnostic professions as well as midwives. An important partner in the areas of education, research and development is the Wiener Gesundheitsverbund (Vienna Health Association).
The curriculum, designed as a spiral curriculum, takes you from the general to the specific, from physiology to pathology, and from the clinical to the out-of-hospital midwifery setting.
In the first year of study, you will deal with the biomedical basics as well as the central contents in connection with physiology - i.e. the healthy course - of pregnancy, birth, postpartum and lactation. From the second year of study, you will broaden your perspective to include aspects of pathology, the deviations from the healthy, and in the final year of study, you will ultimately sharpen your ability to distinguish between physiology and pathology. Thus, upon completion of your studies, you will be optimally prepared for any area of midwifery work.
Number of teaching weeks
18 per semester, including 50 weeks of work experience
Times
Mon to Fri, 8.00 a.m.-7.00 p.m., in individual cases to 10.00 p.m. and on Saturdays
In order to enable all students to gain the necessary practical experience and thus to complete their studies within the regular period of study, there may be practical learning phases during the summer months if required. Four vacation weeks in June, July or August are planned in any case.
Electives
Selection and participation according to available places. There may be separate selection procedures.
As a graduate of this program, a wide range of occupational fields and career opportunities are open to you. Find out here where your path can take you.
Health promotion instead of risk orientation - midwives are and always will be the experts for the health of mother and child.
In addition to the central clinical work in the delivery room or on the postpartum ward, out-of-hospital care and freelance midwifery work are important elements in the Bachelor's degree program Midwifery.
Based on both pillars, you will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Health Studies. By completing this degree program, you will be able to meet the demands of a constantly changing society and working environment in the midwifery profession.
We work closely with the Vienna Healthcare Group, universities like the Medical University of Vienna, the Board of Austrian Midwives and other health care facilities. This guarantees you strong contacts for internships, employment or participation in research and development activities. You will complete the extensive internships at, among others, the hospitals of the Vienna Healthcare Group. You can find information about our cooperation activities and much more at Campusnetzwerk. It's well worth visiting the site as it may direct you to a new job or interesting event held by our cooperation partners!
